Sea vessels have been instructed to vacate the east side of the North Harbour as part of the government’s asphalt and modernization project to widen Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) announced that the Boduthakurufaanu Magu widening work will be completed within three months. The expansion of the Malé North Harbour area is scheduled to begin on Saturday.

According to MPL, the road expansion will be carried out in three phases. The first phase will cover a 100-meter section from the east side of the North Harbour towards the west.

MPL has instructed all vessels currently docked in the area to be removed before 12:00 pm on Friday.

The project is part of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu widening initiative, under which the road will be expanded to four lanes and asphalt will be laid from the fish market to the middle of Republic Square.

The development of Boduthakurufaanu Magu was awarded to MTCC at a cost of MVR 144.5 million and is scheduled to be completed within 455 days.
