First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has reaffirmed the national importance of inclusive employment, stressing that providing job opportunities for persons with disabilities benefits not only individuals and their families but also the wider community.

Speaking at a ceremony hosted by the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), she said that integrating persons with disabilities into the workforce improves their health, wellbeing, and financial independence. She noted that workplace friendships offer emotional support, while recognition from colleagues helps build confidence and resilience.

The First Lady added that regular work routines strengthen personal and professional skills, creating space for individuals to expand their abilities. The initiative reflects the Administration’s commitment to expanding employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

During the event, she presented appointment letters to 30 newly recruited STELCO employees. A moment of silence was held in memory of longtime staff member Ahmed Azmeel, who passed away earlier in the day while receiving treatment abroad. The First Lady extended condolences to his family, honouring his 21 years of service. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also shared his sympathies in a message posted on social media.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr Aishath Shiham, and senior STELCO officials.
