The Criminal Court has sentenced a man to 12 years in prison after police found more than 2 kilograms of drugs and cash in his home.
Hussain Shah was charged with trafficking cannabis in September 2020. During a search of his residence, officers discovered 2.5 kilograms of cannabis, along with drug-related equipment and cash.
Shah first denied the charges but later changed his plea and entered a plea agreement with the state. Although the crime carries a maximum sentence of 25 years, the plea deal reduced his sentence.
The court sentenced him to 12 years and six months in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of MVR 50,000.
In addition, the court instructed the state to recover MVR 61,230 that was seized during the operation.
