The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has announced that southern atolls of the Maldives are expected to experience heavy rainfall until next Sunday.
Meteorologist Thahumeena informed "One" today that while clear weather is anticipated for the northern and central regions of the Maldives on Wednesday, the southern atolls are forecasted to receive heavy rain on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
"Over the next 24 hours, wind speeds in the southern Maldives will be between 7 and 17 miles per hour, while other areas will experience winds between 5 and 15 miles per hour. Seas in the southern Maldives will be rough. In other regions, seas will be moderately calm, becoming somewhat rough during squalls," she stated.
She further added that in the past 24 hours, the heaviest rainfall was recorded in B. Goindhoo and K. Gaafaru. Goindhoo received 117 millimeters of rain, while Gaafaru received 85.7 millimeters. Thahumeena noted that all parts of the Maldives experienced rainfall during the past 24 hours.
The MET Office has issued a White Alert for regions stretching from Haa Alifu Atoll to Gnaviyani Atoll, forecasting heavy rain with thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour during squalls in these areas.
