The first segment of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project has been completed and officially opened to the public. The widening works on the northern side of the road in Malé City began on 21 August, and MTCC has confirmed that the completed section is now in use.

According to MTCC, the upgraded road will significantly improve transportation for those who frequently travel along Boduthakurufaanu Magu and offer greater convenience for pedestrians. The corporation also noted that the newly installed rainwater drainage system will help reduce flooding during heavy rains, contributing to a safer and more sustainable urban infrastructure.

The project, valued at MVR 144,509,024.16, includes several key components: widening Boduthakurufaanu Magu to four lanes, laying 830 metres of asphalt road from the Hulhumalé ferry terminal to the local market, installing drainage systems, and completing road markings and signboards.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu earlier stated, following his first official visit to China, that the largest portion of the USD 130 million grant assistance provided by China will be allocated to the road development project in Malé.
