Maldivian, the national airline, and Air India, India's largest global airline, have signed an agreement to strengthen their partnership and facilitate passenger movement across their regional and national networks.
Maldivian stated that under this agreement, the airline will gain the opportunity to accept additional passengers on flights to 16 islands, excluding Malé, that are served by Maldivian. Furthermore, this partnership will provide feeder traffic from Delhi and Mumbai for Maldivian's Indian routes, thereby enhancing air travel connectivity and convenience for passengers traveling between India and the Maldives.
"This partnership marks a new chapter in our efforts to expand travel opportunities to the Maldives and establish connections for passengers traveling to atolls other than Malé. With Air India's robust network and the extensive reach of our services within the Maldives, this collaboration will play a crucial role in assisting tourism and business travel between the two nations," stated Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian, regarding the agreement.
Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, commented that while the Maldives remains a highly favored destination for Indian tourists, this interline partnership with Maldivian will open doors for Indian travelers to explore previously inaccessible atolls and islands within the Maldives.
"By combining Air India's vast global network with Maldivian's service to all domestic points beyond Malé, passengers will now have the opportunity to discover the diverse offerings of these islands in a single journey," Aggarwal stated.
Maldivian noted that this agreement will enable both airlines to enhance regional cooperation, strengthen network connections, streamline travel, and improve the customer experience, thereby bolstering tourism.
