President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed that ending AIDS is a shared global responsibility, marking World AIDS Day with a message of unity and individual action. He stressed that the world can end AIDS by 2030 if efforts begin at the personal level.
Citing this year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” the President highlighted the Maldives’ achievement as the first country to receive the World Health Organization’s “Triple Elimination” status for ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B. He said this reflects the nation's commitment to universal and equitable healthcare.
He noted that the Maldives’ progress has been strengthened through international partnerships, knowledge sharing, and innovation, and reaffirmed the country’s dedication to global cooperation to ensure equitable care and eliminate stigma.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also underscored the importance of unity and community empowerment, calling for sustained awareness and inclusive access to services.
World AIDS Day is marked annually on 1 December to raise awareness and support global efforts to combat the disease.
