Police have announced the seizure of 29.6 kilograms of drugs from across the country as part of a major operation launched earlier this month. The details were shared during a press conference held at Iskandhar Koshi.

According to Chief Inspector Ahmed Naif, officers searched 105 locations during the operation, resulting in dozens of arrests. Of those detained, 38 individuals have been remanded in custody, while the remaining suspects were released without being taken to court. Police said those held in custody are individuals considered a threat to public safety or capable of influencing witness testimony.

Arrests were made across several regions, including:

  • Three from HDh. Atoll
  • Three from Sh. Atoll
  • One from Addu City
  • One from Fuvahmulah City
  • Two from Faafu Atoll
  • Two from Dh. Atoll
  • Two from Th. Atoll
  • Two from L. Atoll
  • Five from R. Atoll
  • Three from B. Atoll
  • Four from Lh. Atoll
  • One from AA. Atoll
  • Nine from K. Atoll including Malé

Superintendent Ahmed Muslim, head of Drug Enforcement, said the special operation – known as Operation Alimagu – has also led to the arrest of numerous individuals involved in drug trafficking at various levels. Investigations into the suspects are ongoing.

Operation Alimagu was carried out with the involvement of more than 500 police officers, with coordinated raids taking place simultaneously at over 100 locations.
