President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that out of the first 15,000 plots to be allocated from Ras Malé, 10,000 plots will be for Malé residents, and 3,000 plots will be for those from other atolls who have resided in Malé for a long time.

During the official Republic Day ceremony, the President announced that applications for 15,000 plots from Ras Malé would soon be opened under the "Housing for All" policy. The Housing Ministry has since announced its decision to open applications for flats and plots under this policy in January.

Following this, at a ceremony held on the 17th of this month to mark two years since the government took office, the President stated that a total of 25,000 plots are planned for Ras Malé, and that the 15,000 plots are part of the first phase.

During a meeting held at Muhyiddin School to meet with the residents of Villimalé, the President elaborated that the first phase of Ras Malé would comprise 15,000 plots, each measuring 1250 square feet, and that the island is planned to ultimately include a total of 25,000 plots.

"Out of the 15,000 plots, we are categorizing them. 10,000 plots are for citizens born in Malé, Malé residents, and all citizens referred to as Malé residents, including those in the Dhaftharu. Then 3,000 plots are designated for residents from other islands who have lived in Malé for a long time. That makes 13,000. And for the remaining 2,000, the Housing Ministry will announce details, which will include those who give up their plots in Malé and those who are in difficult circumstances," he stated.

The President added that the government would identify the recipients of these 15,000 plots next year, by the time the reclamation of the 1,000-acre land for Ras Malé is completed, and that residents of Villimalé would also be eligible to apply for these plots.
