The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has confirmed that the water supplied by the Fenaka Corporation branch in Fuvahmulah is safe for consumption.

Water services in Fuvahmulah had been suspended since Monday to allow for a major clean-up of the island’s water system. Fenaka has since resolved the issue and resumed supplying water to households.

In a statement released today, the MFDA said it had collected samples from various locations across the island. According to the authority, test results show that the water meets the World Health Organization’s drinking water standards.

Earlier, the Fuvahmulah City Council held discussions with senior officials from Fenaka after the water supply resumed. As the water test report was not yet available at the time, the council advised residents not to use the water until the results were confirmed.

With the MFDA’s assurance now issued, authorities expect normal use of the water supply to resume.
