Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, has stated that drug traffickers will find it increasingly difficult to operate in the Maldives, as authorities intensify efforts to eliminate the drug trade.

His remarks follow the launch of Operation Alimagu, a large-scale nationwide crackdown involving more than 500 police officers conducting simultaneous raids at over 100 locations across the country. The operation began early yesterday morning, leading to the arrest of over 90 individuals and the seizure of significant quantities of drugs, cash, and illegal cigarettes.

According to the Ministry of Homeland Security, Operation Alimagu was initiated after six months of intelligence gathering by the Maldives Police Service. The ministry reaffirmed that the government is determined to put an end to drug trafficking and ensure a safer, drug-free Maldives.

The police are continuing round-the-clock efforts as part of this operation to strengthen public safety and prevent further criminal activity linked to drug networks.
