Police have announced that 90 individuals have been arrested so far in "Operation Alimagu," a major anti-drug operation launched across the Maldives today.
In a post on X today, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the government has been working to make the Maldives completely free from the scourge of drugs. He mentioned that he had instructed the police to conduct an operation specifically targeting those involved in drug trafficking.
"This operation will simultaneously search and inspect more than 100 locations across the Maldives, with over 500 police officers participating," the President stated.
Shortly afterward, police issued a statement confirming that "Operation Alimagu" had commenced at 5:30 AM today. They noted that the operation is being conducted based on intelligence information.
In a recent post on X, police announced that 90 individuals have been arrested so far through "Operation Alimagu." However, details about the locations of these arrests were not specified.
Photos released by the police show that in addition to narcotics, they have seized large amounts of cash and equipment used for drug distribution.
According to the police, "Operation Alimagu" is the largest anti-drug operation conducted in recent history.
