President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that good services can be provided to citizens only by eliminating corruption.

Speaking at the official ceremony marking Republic Day held today at the Social Center, the President said that he is working toward establishing a responsible and just government. The President said this can be achieved by eliminating corruption.

"In a republic, when providing services to citizens, what's important to people is transparent, fair, and just service delivery. To free ourselves from the biggest plague that hinders this, we decided to move toward digitalization," the President said.

"The more we distance ourselves from acts of corruption, the better service we can provide to citizens."

The President said that digitalization is important to eradicate the plague of corruption. He said that when citizens come to seek services, if the service provider has the opportunity to gain personal benefit, it creates a pathway for corruption. The President said that most corruption is committed by people in positions where they can obtain personal benefits.

The President said that the goal of Maldives 2.0 is to digitalize all state and government services, which will eliminate human interference in service provision and receipt. The President said that a significant amount has been allocated for digitalization in next year's budget, so this work will begin next year.
