President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 1,000 children will be trained under the Maldives National Service (MNS) programme next year.
Speaking at the Victory Day function held at the Social Centre, the President highlighted the strong public support for the initiative, noting that families and guardians had shown great confidence in allowing their children to take part in national service. This widespread trust led to an overwhelming number of applications, far exceeding initial expectations.
The President stated that the government plans to begin training an additional 1,000 participants by the end of this year, marking a significant expansion of the programme. He confirmed that the training will continue annually, with at least 1,000 students joining each year.
He also expressed appreciation to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for their assistance in implementing the Wathani Seva Programme, which operates under the broader MNS framework.
President Dr Muizzu underscored that the MNS programme aims to cultivate a generation of youth who are patriotic, disciplined, and committed to national service. He said the initiative is a source of pride for the country, fostering unity and a sense of responsibility among young Maldivians.
