President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the budget the government will submit to the People's Majlis next year will be one that fulfills the remaining pledges.
During his visit to K. and Lh. Atoll today, President Muizzu met with the people of Lh. Olhuvelifushi and said that he had promised to carry out projects over two years, dividing them between this year and next year.
"In addition to the projects that have been signed and started this year from among the promises I made, we will allocate space in next year's budget for all the projects needed to fulfill the remaining promises. So the budget we submit for next year will be one that starts the remaining projects from the promises I made to the people," the President said.
The President said that other things needed for the development of the islands will also be carried forward through next year's budget.
He said that with the dissolution of the atoll councils, the budgets of the island councils will increase. However, the President said that the councils will be obligated to spend this additional money on social protection for the people.
"Looking at it this way, this additional money, the distributed money, will be mandatorily used through each island's council for vulnerable or needy people in the community, whether they are people with disabilities or those needing various kinds of assistance, or for emergencies. We are allocating this additional budget to the councils in a way that makes it mandatory to use for providing assistance in such areas of need," the President said.
The President said that the money given to the councils after dissolving the atoll councils cannot be used for any other purpose.
"The council mandate law will have many things. Among them will be providing social services to the people. Providing social protection will be there in line with government policy. We are giving the money needed to fulfill that responsibility," the President said.
