Hulhumedhoo is set for a fireworks display tonight to celebrate the majority vote in favor of creating a separate council for Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo in the referendum held to determine whether to change the composition of Addu City Council.

In the election held yesterday, a large percentage of residents from Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo voted in favor of creating a separate council.

In Hulhudhoo, 720 people voted in favor of creating a separate council, which is 67.29 percent. 325 people voted against it, which is 30.37 percent.

With all four ballot boxes from Meedhoo counted, 841 people voted in favor of creating a separate council, which is 83.93 percent. 144 people voted against it, which is 14.37 percent.

According to sources, the fireworks event in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo tonight is being organized by the Member of Parliament for Meedhoo constituency, Abdur Rahman, and the Member of Parliament for Hulhudhoo constituency, Mohamed Shahid.

The fireworks are scheduled to be set off in the harbor area of Hulhumedhoo at 8:30 PM tonight.

According to the provisional results of the election, the residents of Feydhoo decided against creating a separate council. In Feydhoo, 1782 people voted against creating a separate council, which is 73.61 percent. 615 people voted in favor, which is 25.40 percent.

For the referendum on whether to change the composition of Addu City Council, 9,721 ballot papers were printed. This means 9,721 people had the right to vote.

The Elections Commission (EC) has stated that the final results of this election are scheduled to be announced today.
