British Airways has begun operations from the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA).
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates VIA, said tonight that a special ceremony was held yesterday to mark the commencement of British Airways services from the new terminal. The ceremony was graced by Mohammed Toafiq Wahab, Acting High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to the Maldives, MACL said.
The ceremony was attended by Mohamed Nihaan, Airport Manager of British Airways, along with senior officials and representatives from MACL.
MACL said that during the ceremony, British Airways check-in counters were officially opened and gifts were presented to the 126 passengers departing on their flight. A warm welcome with cultural activities was also given to the 122 passengers who arrived on BA061, the first British Airways aircraft to arrive at the new terminal.
British Airways is the national airline of the United Kingdom. It began operations to the Maldives on October 26, 2009.
With British Airways, 13 airlines are now operating from the new terminal. British Airways is the first European airline to start services from the new terminal.
MACL stated that their goal is to provide the most comprehensive and highest quality service to all airlines traveling to the Maldives.
This development marks a significant step in enhancing international air connectivity to the Maldives and improving airport services.
