The Maldives has joined the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime.

The Maldives signed this convention during the ongoing High-Level Opening Meeting of the UN Convention Against Cybercrime in Vietnam. Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel signed the convention on behalf of the Maldives.

The People's Majlis approved the Maldives' participation in this convention on the 15th of this month.

In a post on X today, Dr. Khaleel said that he had signed the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime on behalf of the Maldivian government.

Dr. Khaleel stated that the Maldives' participation in this convention is an important step towards securing a safe digital future. He mentioned that developing countries like the Maldives are particularly vulnerable to cybercrime due to limited resources for cybersecurity.

However, Dr. Khaleel emphasized that such risks will not diminish their determination to overcome cybercrime threats.

By signing this convention, the Maldives will work together with the international community against cybercrimes, Dr. Khaleel said.

This move signifies the Maldives' commitment to international cooperation in combating cybercrime and enhancing digital security.
