President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has arrived in the Maldives on an official visit; the first visit by a FIFA President to the country in 19 years.

Infantino was warmly welcomed upon arrival, with cultural performances held at the airport to celebrate the occasion. Players from the national football and futsal teams, as well as youth academies, were also present to greet him. Senior officials from the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) officially received the FIFA President.

The last visit by a FIFA President to the Maldives was in 2006, when Sepp Blatter toured several countries affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami.

During his visit, Infantino is scheduled to meet senior officials involved in Maldivian football and hold discussions with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

A special friendly match is planned to take place at 4:00 p.m. today at the National Stadium, featuring President Dr Muizzu’s team against Infantino’s side. The FIFA President’s team will include former Italian football legend Marco Materazzi.

The match is part of a special football festival celebrating Infantino’s visit, reflecting the growing importance of football in the Maldives and the nation’s enthusiasm for the sport.
