The Civil Court has ordered the suspension of the Tourism Ministry's notice to terminate the agreement for B. Kihaadhuffaru, which has been operating as a resort.
The court issued this order in response to a case filed by At Athama Marine International, which holds the head lease for the resort.
Athama sought this order after a team from the Tourism Ministry visited the island, stating that the resort was operating without permission, and demanded the handover of keys to bring the property under the ministry's control.
The court order stipulates that the implementation of the termination notice sent by the Tourism Ministry be postponed until the second day of next month. It also orders that no actions be taken regarding Kihaadhuffaru that would create third-party interests.
The Tourism Ministry had stated that the temporary operating license for the resort expired on September 27 of last year. They noted that issues were not rectified even after this expiration.
According to the ministry, the company has been fined twice for operating the resort without permission and accommodating tourists illegally. The ministry said it has been working with relevant authorities to take legal action against the company as the issue remains unresolved. Consequently, the ministry has terminated the agreement for the island.
The ministry had previously instructed all parties to refrain from any transactions or activities related to bringing tourists tourists to Kiha Maldives Resort.
