President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Milandhoo Airport project — including land reclamation and harbour development — will be completed within 30 months. He made the announcement during his visit to Milandhoo in North Miladhunmadulu Atoll.

The President said that 40 hectares of land will be reclaimed within eight months, while the full airport project will be completed and operational within two and a half years. He added that the Government aims to improve harbour facilities to boost local connectivity and economic growth.

During the visit, several major projects were launched, including the construction of 50 housing units, Phase 2 of the road development, and the Milandhoo Sports Complex. Agreements were also signed for the second phase of the coastal protection project.

President Dr Muizzu also laid foundation stones for a new police station, Islamic centre, and hospital, and inaugurated the new futsal pitch and volleyball court. Passport issuance services were also introduced on the island.

The new Islamic Centre will accommodate up to 700 people, while the hospital will have 30 beds. The road project will include a ring road and revetments to expand the island’s land area.

The President further announced that a new Public Works Unit will be established in Milandhoo, WAMCO services will begin in January 2026, and X-ray services will start before the end of this year.

He said these projects represent a major step towards Milandhoo’s comprehensive and sustainable development.
