Badminton World Federation (BWF) has eased restrictions to allow Maldivian athletes to compete in international tournaments.

According to the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC), players will now be able to participate in BWF-approved events until 26 December. This includes major competitions such as the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.

The decision follows ongoing efforts to resolve issues that led to the suspension of the Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM). An ad hoc committee, comprising members of the MOC and BAM’s current leadership, is finalising new regulations, with elections scheduled for November.

MOC President Mohamed Abdul Sattar (Champi) described the move as a valuable opportunity for Maldivian players who have been preparing to represent the country. He added that the MOC would continue supporting reforms to strengthen the association.

BAM was previously suspended by the BWF, preventing Maldivian athletes from competing in sanctioned events. Concerns had grown over the impact on player rankings. The latest decision is seen as a positive step towards restoring full participation in international badminton.
