Dhiraagu has partnered with the Maldives National University (MNU) to organise the E-Waste Hackathon, aimed at raising awareness among young people about the growing issue of electronic waste in the Maldives.
The hackathon, scheduled to run from 28 October to 7 November, will bring together secondary students, as well as college and university students, to discuss innovative solutions to reduce e-waste. Participants will include students, creative youth, and those passionate about protecting the environment.
E-waste refers to discarded electrical or electronic devices such as computers, phones, televisions, refrigerators, batteries and other equipment. It is one of the fastest-growing environmental challenges worldwide, and the hackathon seeks to highlight this issue while encouraging youth-led solutions.
Held under the theme “Innovating for a Circular Economy: Tackling the E-Waste Crisis”, the programme will feature workshops led by experts, as well as visits to waste management and recycling centres. These activities will provide participants with practical insights before they submit their final solutions to a panel of judges.
Registration for the hackathon is open until Thursday for those wishing to participate.
Dhiraagu noted that this initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to support digital innovation and sustainability programmes, while empowering youth to take the lead in addressing pressing environmental challenges.
