President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that if the residents of Raiymandhoo decide to migrate to another island, they will be relocated within a year of the completion of housing development in the chosen location.

Speaking with the community of Raiymandhoo today, the President acknowledged that while some families wish to move, others prefer to remain on the island. He made the remarks in response to a request from Island Council President Ismail Nahid to explain the benefits of relocation.

The President said the government’s priority is to ensure a self-sufficient and comfortable life for those who choose to migrate. He noted that the project would be carried out in a planned manner and only with the consent of at least 80 percent of the island’s population.

He further stated that each registered household would receive a new home, while the existing relocation allowance of MVR 50,000 for families would be increased. The government, he added, aims to provide relocated residents with improved healthcare, education, basic services, and access to developed infrastructure.

The President stressed that the decision would be taken through a referendum involving the island council, residents, and relevant government institutions. If relocation is approved, he confirmed that construction of new housing would begin as early as this year or the next.
