Work has officially begun on the harbour development project in V. Fulidhoo. The project was inaugurated by Minister of Construction Dr Mohamed Waheed Abdulla Muttalib, who was joined by the CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Ahmed Saudi. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also visited the island as part of his ongoing tour of Vaavu Atoll.

At present, Fulidhoo relies on a jetty, but with the island’s growth in local tourism, the new harbour is seen as an important development.

According to MTCC, the project will include dredging 79,933 cubic metres, construction of a 300-metre quay wall, 439 metres of revetment, 174 metres of geotube revetment, 25 metres of groyne, and a 77-metre outer wall. A 1,450-square-metre pavement and a 40-metre-wide, 6-metre-long concrete bridge will also be built, along with the installation of harbour lights.

The Ministry of Construction and Development has awarded the project to MTCC at a cost of MVR 463.46 million, with completion expected within 465 days.
