President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned the recent Israeli attack on Qatar, describing it as a violation of Qatari sovereignty and an assault on the dignity of the Arab and Islamic world.
Speaking at the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha today, President Dr Muizzu labelled the attack a crime against humanity and a direct strike on peace. He said Qatar, as a central mediator in Gaza peace efforts, deserves recognition rather than punishment, warning that Israel’s actions aim to undermine peace and destabilise the region.
The President criticised what he described as a wider pattern of Israeli violations, including the occupation of Palestinian territories, denial of humanitarian access, and the targeting of civilians, doctors, and journalists. He called out double standards that protect Israel from accountability, urging that international law be applied equally to all nations.
Reaffirming the Maldives’ solidarity with Qatar, President Dr Muizzu said no nation in the Islamic world should face aggression alone. He urged coordinated political, economic, and diplomatic measures to hold Israeli leaders accountable for war crimes and pressed for immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza and the West Bank.
He stressed that the world must act decisively, noting that “words alone cannot stop bombs or rebuild shattered lives.”
President Dr Muizzu is in Doha to attend the summit, which was convened following the Israeli attack on 9 September. Leaders of OIC Member States are gathering to demand an end to the ongoing violence and to push for stronger international action to restore peace in the region.
