Capital expenditures have been reduced, lowering state budget spending by 15.5 percent.

According to weekly financial statistics published by the Ministry of Finance, as of last Tuesday (September 9, 2025), the state budget has spent MVR 25.4 billion. This is 15.5 percent lower compared to the same period last year. The main reason for this is a 57.7 percent decrease in state capital expenditure.

The statistics show that during this period, 56.7 percent of recurrent expenditure was spent on administrative operations of government offices, which is 4.5 percent lower than the same period last year. Expenditure on office supplies has decreased by 15.5 percent, while repair and maintenance costs have decreased by 15.6 percent. Travel expenses from the state budget have also decreased by 5.8 percent compared to last year. Additionally, various aids and subsidies provided by the state have decreased by 7.0 percent compared to last year.

The statistics show that as of last Tuesday, MVR 3.3 billion has been spent from the state budget as capital expenditure. This includes MVR 2.9 billion spent on infrastructure assets, including road construction, bridges, and airport development.

While MVR 12.4 billion was estimated for the Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP), MVR 4.1 billion has been spent on such programs so far this year, according to the Finance Ministry's financial statistics. A large percentage of this year's PSIP budget has been spent on various projects related to solving transportation difficulties. A total of MVR 2.6 billion has been spent on such projects. In addition, MVR 131.6 million has been spent on various housing projects.

The Finance Ministry's statistics show that as of last Tuesday, the overall state budget has maintained a surplus of MVR 868.7 million.
