The five parliamentarians who were given a 15-day notice to submit their financial statements have now complied with the requirement.

Under Article 75 of the People’s Majlis Regulation, all MPs are required to prepare and submit details of their assets and financial statements—including those of their spouses and children under the age of 18—to the Secretary-General of Parliament by 31 August each year.

Last week, the Parliament Secretariat published the submitted statements on its official website, noting that five members had yet to provide their details. The members were Mohamed Nazim, MP for North Maafannu (MNP), Ahmed Zameer, MP for Central Machangolhi (PNC), Mohamed Mustafa Ibrahim, MP for West Maafannu (PNC), Mohamed Shamin Habeeb, MP for Kurendhoo (PNC), and Ismail Nizar, MP for North Feydhoo (PNC).

In line with Article 77 of the Parliament regulations, the Secretariat issued a 15-day notice to these members. All of them submitted their statements within the notice period, and the documents have since been made public on the Parliament’s website.

According to parliamentary regulations, MPs who fail to meet the deadline face disciplinary action. These measures include withholding daily salary payments until submission and restricting their participation in sittings and committee meetings until their financial statements are filed.

The Secretariat has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing these rules to ensure transparency and accountability among members of Parliament.
