Employment Tribunal has ordered Fuel Supplies Maldives Private Limited (FSM) to reinstate a former employee and pay MVR 150,000 in compensation.

The case involved F. Magodhoo resident, Nuhir Mohamed Amjad, who was employed as a Specialist in Talent Acquisition at FSM since May 2017. He was dismissed on 1 December 2024.

Amjad argued that his dismissal was unlawful, claiming it violated the Employment Act, the Constitution, and international labour standards. He also stated that FSM had terminated him without giving valid reasons, without allowing him to defend himself, and without following due process.

After reviewing the case, the tribunal concluded that Amjad’s dismissal was carried out in violation of employment laws and procedures. It ruled that he must be reinstated to his former position and compensated for financial losses suffered as a result of the termination.

FSM was ordered to pay six months’ wages, annual benefits due up to the date of termination, and MVR 20,000 in legal expenses. The tribunal instructed FSM to fully comply with the decision within 60 days and provide written confirmation to the tribunal within three days of implementation.
