The police have made public the photos of individuals arrested under the new law aimed at confiscating assets and money used in or obtained from crimes, and imposing severe punishments on offenders to prevent gang-related and other dangerous crimes.

The bill, passed by the People's Majlis to combat organized crime and gang-related offenses, was ratified on May 25 this year. On August 25, the police announced that they had begun special operations to enforce this law.

According to the police last night, those arrested are Ibrahim Zaidan (22) of Ma. Morningview, Malé; Ahmed Nawaz (30) of Ma. Morningview, Malé; and Mohamed Shidad (22) of Bashimage, L. Maabaidhoo.

All three are suspected of possessing a sharp object or dangerous weapon.

They were arrested under Section 58 (a) and (c) of the Prevention of Gang Crimes and Other Dangerous Crimes Act. When presented to the Criminal Court yesterday for a detention hearing, the court ordered 15-day detention for Zaidan and Shidad, while Nawaz was remanded for 30 days.

The Criminal Court ordered their detention under Section 58 (a) and (c) of the Act, stating that they need to be kept in custody. The order also cites Section 58 (c)(1), which allows detention if there's a possibility of harm to society.

The police have submitted evidence against the three suspects, including an incident report, scene photos, and photos of two knives found.

The defense argued that the two knives were not in plain sight. However, the additional statement in the court order notes that this claim cannot be substantiated based on the photos submitted by the police. The judge has indicated this as a point that the police should clarify further in future detention hearings.

This order was issued by Judge Mohamed Misbah.
