The Parliament Secretariat has begun publishing the financial statements of Members of Parliament.

While the regulations state that members must submit their asset and financial declarations, the 20th Parliament amended the rules to require members to submit financial statements one year after taking the oath of office.

This is from May 28 of the current year to May 27 of the following year.

The regulations state that members must prepare and submit to the Secretary-General of the Parliament their asset and financial declarations, including those of their spouses and children under 18, before August 31 of each calendar year.

According to the Parliament website, as of 11:45 today, financial statements of all members except seven out of the 93-member parliament have been uploaded.

However, it is unclear whether the members whose financial statements have not been uploaded are those who have not submitted their statements to the Parliament, or if their statements are simply not being uploaded, as the Parliament media did not answer phone calls.

The regulations also specify measures to be taken against members who do not submit financial statements as required.

These include the Speaker announcing the name of the member in a parliamentary session, after which the member can only participate in parliamentary sessions or committee meetings after submitting their asset and financial declaration or financial statement. Along with this measure, for each day until the asset and financial declaration or financial statement is submitted, the daily equivalent of the member's salary will be deducted.

Members whose financial statements are not available so far:

  1. Ahmed Zameer, MP for Machangolhi Central constituency
  2. Mohamed Nazim, MP for Maafannu North constituency
  3. Mohamed Mustafa Ibrahim, MP for Maafannu West constituency

  5. Mohamed Shamin Habeeb, MP for Kurendhoo constituency
