A man has been arrested for beating his lover on the streets of capital city, Male.

Maldives Police Service noted that they received reports of a scuffle on Saturday, and that they learnt that the case was one of domestic violence upon arrival on the scene.

Police noted that there were visible signs of injury on the head and arms of the woman. Police had transported her to a hospital shortly afterwards.

Police also confirmed that the man has been apprehended, and a ten day remand period set for him as they continue to investigate the case.

Several photos of the incident are now circulating on social media, from which it is clearly visible that her pants were torn off. The photos also show the man dragging her by the arms.
