Sheet piling work has begun today on the first segment of the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, which is closed for renovation.
MTCC, which is carrying out the work, said today that when the road is completed, it will be wider, more convenient for pedestrians, and less congested.
They also said that a new stormwater drainage system will reduce flooding.
The actual work of renovating Boduthakurufaanu Magu began last Thursday.
On April 9, MTCC was awarded the project for MVR 144,509,024.16 (144.5 million) rufiyaa, to be completed within 455 days.
The main works planned under this project include:
- Widening the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu to four lanes
- Laying asphalt on 830 meters of road (from Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal to Local Market)
- Construction of sidewalks
- Establishing a drainage system
- Road marking and sign board installation
Developing Malé's roads to to modern standards and solving the congestion problem is a presidential pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the 2023 presidential election.
The project aims to upgrade the deteriorating condition of roads in Malé and Vilimalé to modern standards, bringing significant benefits to the public.
After assuming office, in his media statement following his first official trip to China, the President said that the largest expenditure from the 130 million dollar grant aid from China would be allocated to the Malé road development project.
