President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his commitment to providing equal services to all Maldivian citizens, regardless of population size, describing it as one of his core governing principles.
Speaking during a meeting with residents of Baa Maalhos as part of his visit to Baa Atoll, the President stressed that every citizen of the country is equal and that development projects will be delivered without discrimination.
Updating on campaign pledges for the island, he announced that work on developing the Maalhos port has begun, with progress to accelerate once large boulders, previously delayed due to funding issues, are secured. He added that erosion in the area will be addressed alongside the port’s completion, and the power plant will be relocated to reclaimed land.
Other planned developments include the completion of a football field, an outdoor gym, and a youth recreation centre within the year. The government will also study technical solutions to tackle flooding in the island’s centre. Road construction will proceed according to residents’ preferences, with or without fencing, alongside proper drainage systems.
In education, new classrooms, science labs, and a multipurpose hall will be built for the island’s school, with location decisions left to the community. The construction of a new health centre is expected to commence soon following the signing of the project agreement two weeks ago.
The President further announced ongoing work on a 500-seat mosque in Malé City, incorporating solar power, libraries, and community facilities as part of the government’s “Zamani mosque” initiative.
