Ministry of Health has signed agreements with three private companies to upgrade health centres on six islands, as part of efforts to decentralise healthcare and reduce reliance on facilities in Malé.
At a ceremony held on 31 July, Deputy Health Minister Ismail Zahir signed the contracts on behalf of the government. Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and Members of Parliament from the respective constituencies were also present.
Perfect Malafehi Maldives Pvt Ltd will upgrade the health centres in Vashafaru and Thuraakunu. The Vashafaru project, valued at MVR 4.8 million, will add several new facilities and is expected to be completed in 210 days. The Thuraakunu upgrade, worth MVR 3.4 million, will be completed within 180 days.
Econ Maldives Pvt Ltd will upgrade the health centre in Lhaimagu, with similar additions at a cost of MVR 4.8 million, scheduled for completion in 180 days.
Fara Construction Pvt Ltd will handle projects in Magoodhoo, Bilehdhoo, and Dharanboodhoo. Each project ranges between MVR 4.3 million and MVR 4.8 million, with completion timelines of 180 to 210 days.
The Health Ministry stated that these developments demonstrate the government's commitment to improving healthcare access and quality throughout the country.
