President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has dismissed allegations made by former President Abdulla Yameen linking him to the 2024 fire at the Green Building, which housed three government ministries.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the President’s Office today, President Dr Muizzu described the allegations as baseless and denied any connection to the incident.
The President said the building had been used as a workplace by him for several years and that witnessing the building being engulfed in flames was a distressing experience.
Former President Yameen claimed at a PPM gathering last night that President Muizzu would know who was responsible for the fire and alleged that efforts were being made to conceal the matter within the police.
Home Minister Ali Ihusan has also called on the police to investigate the allegations made by former President Yameen.
Police have previously concluded their investigation into the fire, stating that it was caused by an electrical short circuit and that there was no evidence indicating that the fire was deliberately started.
