Ministry of Islamic Affairs has revoked Askoi Group’s permission to organise Umrah pilgrimages following allegations of fraud and rule violations.
The decision comes after reports surfaced that the group’s leaders fled the country with money and passports collected from individuals intending to travel for Umrah. Despite the ministry’s attempts to contact the group, no response was received.
In a statement, the ministry outlined several actions:
- Withdrawing Askoi Group’s Umrah permit
- Imposing an undisclosed fine
- Banning any company linked to Askoi shareholders from conducting Umrah trips
- Ordering full refunds to affected individuals
- Filing a police complaint to initiate an investigation
The ministry assured swift action and reiterated its commitment to regulating Umrah travel services. Askoi Group was previously fined MVR 130,000 in May for similar violations.
