Maldives has begun issuing 90-day on-arrival visas to Sri Lankan nationals, further strengthening ties between the two neighbouring countries.
Maldives Immigration announced the decision on X Wednesday evening, stating it was made during the official visit of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, following discussions with Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
This move mirrors Sri Lanka’s earlier decision in January to issue 90-day on-arrival visas to Maldivians, highlighting the growing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
In addition, both countries recently agreed to grant one-year visas to Maldivians living in Sri Lanka, and to families travelling for medical treatment. Sri Lanka has also decided to offer one-year visas to spouses of Maldivians who are working or studying in the country.
At a joint press conference following official talks held on Monday, President Dr Muizzu expressed his gratitude. He thanked the Sri Lankan president for the continued hospitality Maldivians recieve in Sri Lanka. He also noted that discussions are ongoing to expand consular services for Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka.
President Dissanayake concluded his official visit and departed the Maldives yesterday.
