Brigadier General (Rtd) Ali Zuhair has been appointed as the new Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), following the resignation of Mohamed Mauroof Jameel. The appointment was announced today by the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) in a post on X.

Zuhair previously served as the Managing Director of the Road Development Corporation (RDC) before being dismissed from that role. He now takes over the leadership at HDC.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Nazim has been appointed as the new Managing Director of RDC. Nazim previously served as the Minister of State for Construction and was also the Managing Director of the Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Mauroof Jameel, who resigned as HDC’s Managing Director earlier today, is expected to retire on 18 August. He was appointed to the post on 22 December last year.

During his tenure, Mauroof introduced a new strategic plan to revise the Hulhumalé masterplan and improve the company’s operations. He oversaw significant progress in land use planning and played a key role in Hulhumalé’s development since its early design stages.

Mauroof has also held senior positions in the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) and served as Minister of Construction and Public Infrastructure during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s final term. He is currently active in the field of architectural heritage.

His appointment last year followed the resignation of Ibrahim Fazul, who stepped down amid controversy related to land allotment issues.
