Mohamed Mauroof Jameel has resigned from his position as Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the company confirmed today. No specific reason was given for his resignation.

Mauroof, who is set to officially retire on 18 August, was appointed to the post on 22 December last year following the resignation of Ibrahim Fazul. Fazul had stepped down amid controversy surrounding the unlawful allocation of land.

During Mauroof’s short tenure, HDC introduced a new strategic plan aimed at making significant improvements to the Hulhumalé masterplan and enhancing the corporation's overall operations. Work also progressed on revising the Hulhumalé land use plan under his leadership.

Mauroof has a long history with Hulhumalé’s development. He previously served as the Director General of the Hulhumalé Development Unit during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration, before HDC was established. Over the years, he held several key positions within the corporation, including a brief stint as CEO, and played an instrumental role from the island’s initial design phase to its current development.

He also served as Minister of Construction and Public Infrastructure during President Gayoom’s final term and held leadership roles at the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC).

Mauroof is currently involved in projects focused on architectural heritage.
