Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on an official visit to the Maldives, held a series of meetings on Monday with leaders of various political parties, reaffirming the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The meetings took place at Kurumba Maldives Resort, where Prime Minister Modi is staying. Among those he met were Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim, Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, and Maldives National Party (MNP) leader Mohamed Nazim. Modi also engaged in separate discussions with senior representatives of these parties.

In his remarks during the meetings, Prime Minister Modi emphasised that the participation of a broad spectrum of Maldivian political leaders reflects the deep-rooted and historic ties between India and the Maldives. "The values shared by the two countries support this important relationship," he noted.

Earlier in the day, Prime Modi Modi also held talks with opposition leader Abdulla Shahid, former President Mohamed Nasheed, and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Malé on Sunday at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to participate in the Maldives' Independence Day celebrations.
