President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has hailed the Maldives–India relationship as a reflection of shared history and a lasting partnership, as the two nations celebrate 60 years of diplomatic ties.
His remarks came during a state banquet held in honour of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official visit to the Maldives.
In his address, President Dr Muizzu noted that the connection between the Maldives and India reaches far beyond diplomatic formalities, rooted in centuries of cultural and commercial exchanges. He described the Indian Ocean as a symbol of this deep and historic relationship, shaped by generations of trade and neighbourly ties.
President Dr Muizzu expressed appreciation to the Indian government for its consistent support and unwavering friendship. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to building an inclusive and robust economy, empowering the nation’s youth, and promoting peace and security in the region - goals he said are supported by India’s valuable partnership.
President Dr Muizzu reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening this unique relationship and expressed his hopes for a future marked by greater prosperity and collaboration between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi, speaking at the event, echoed the sentiments of enduring friendship and mutual respect. He highlighted the deep-rooted cultural connections that have enriched both nations over time and reaffirmed the importance of their shared heritage in maintaining strong bilateral ties.
The occasion served as a significant milestone in Maldives–India relations, underscoring a renewed commitment to deepening cooperation and fostering regional stability.
