Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting the Maldives across all areas of development, highlighting the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Speaking during a joint statement issued at the President’s Office, Prime Minister Modi described the Maldives as one of India’s closest friends and a key regional partner. He emphasised that India will continue to assist the country in every phase of its development journey.
India will always stand by the Maldives, both in times of need and progress, Prime Minister Modi said, reiterating India’s role as the Maldives’ first responder during emergencies and crises.
He also expressed gratitude to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for inviting him to participate in the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations, marking the visit as a reflection of the strong bilateral ties.
As part of the visit, India and the Maldives signed several significant agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation. Among them, the standout agreement was a $526 million Line of Credit extended by India, aimed at supporting key infrastructure and development projects across the Maldives.
The visit and new agreements are expected to further deepen the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
