Family Court has begun publicly disclosing the identities of individuals who fail to pay court-ordered child support, including photographs, in an effort to enforce compliance with family obligations.

In a recent announcement, the court posted the details and photograph of Ahmed Ali, Male' Dhaftar No. RS 2758, on social media, citing non-payment of his son’s expenses. The court stated that this public disclosure is a precautionary measure aimed at pressuring defaulters to fulfil their legal responsibilities.

Under existing family regulations, courts are mandated to disclose the identities of those who neglect to pay child support, known locally as dareen. Such cases represent a significant portion of those filed at the Family Court.

As per the rules, the current standard support amount is MVR 2,000 per month for a single child, and MVR 1,000 per month for each child in families with more than one. If the father is financially incapable of meeting these payments, the responsibility may be transferred to another individual. However, the law also permits higher support payments if the father is financially capable or if the child’s needs warrant it.
