President Dr Mohamed Muizzu arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday for a series of high-level diplomatic engagements aimed at reinforcing the longstanding relationship between Malé and London.
According to the President's Office, upon arrival in London today, President Muizzu was welcomed by Major Jeremy Fern TD DL, Special Envoy of the King and Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Waltham Forest; Gordon Wetherell CMG, Special Representative of the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs; and Iruthisham Adam, High Commissioner of the Maldives to the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The President's Office stated that during this trip, the President will participate in meetings aimed at further strengthening the relationship between the Maldives and the UK.
These meetings will focus on discussions about governance, climate and environmental issues, as well as enhancing cooperation in business, investment, and education. Additionally, the President is scheduled to participate in a business forum in London.
The President's Office said that this visit will further strengthen the relationship between the Maldives and the UK, which is based on mutual respect and trust.
A high-level Maldivian delegation is accompanying the President on this trip.
Formal diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the UK were established on July 26, 1965, the day the Maldives gained independence from British rule. This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
