Zaidan Mohamed Hashim (28) of G. Sinamale 1 05-13 and his wife Afrin Akhtar from Bangladesh (30), who were arrested in connection with cases of conducting business with various shops using fake transfer slips, have been released from custody.
On June 22, the police stated that a case was filed on May 16 about purchases made from a shop in Hulhumalé using fake slips on different days of the previous month.
In connection with this case, the police said the couple was arrested on June 17 under a court order.
The police said today that when the couple was presented to court on June 17 for a detention hearing, Zaidan was ordered to be detained for 15 days and Afrin Akhtar for five days.
However, as it is no longer deemed necessary to keep them in custody for the investigation, both have been released from police custody, according to the police.
The police stated that further investigation revealed that fake bank transfer slips were used to fraudulently obtain goods from various shops in Malé and Hulhumalé.
"CCTV footage shows goods believed to be purchased using fake slips being brought into two Hiyaa flats rented by Zaidan Mohamed Hashim, the suspect in the case. When these apartments were searched, items related to the investigation were found," the police said.
The police are continuing to investigate these cases.
