The airport under construction in F. Magoodhoo has been vandalized.

Abdullah Waheed, the President of Magoodhoo Council, told "One" today that last night, a group of people vandalized the building intended to be used as the fire station at the airport. This building was nearly completed.

Waheed said that the windows of the building were smashed, the ceiling was torn apart, and some chairs in the building were burned.

"I don't believe this was done by someone from this island. There's no reason to cause such damage. It seems more likely that this was done to obstruct the airport work. They didn't enter to steal anything," Waheed said.

Waheed mentioned that there are no CCTV cameras in the airport area, and security is low. He added that it's an area accessible to everyone.

The police are now investigating the case.

The construction of Magoodhoo Airport, which was entrusted to MTCC during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration, has been stalled for some time.

Costing a total of MVR 252 million, Magoodhoo Airport is one of the most expensive domestic airports built so far. While a large part of the airport is completed, including much of the runway, tower, and fire station work.

The airport, which is being built with a 1,800-meter runway to accommodate private jets, will also have a parking area for jets and a jet fuel farm. It has also been decided to build a hotel for jet crew members to stay.
