Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a revision to the dollar spending limit for Maldivians residing overseas, increasing the cap to USD 750. This development comes following a recent directive by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), which set a limit of USD 125 per month for international ATM cash withdrawals and imposed a USD 10 transaction fee for such withdrawals.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), BML clarified that Maldivians living abroad can now withdraw up to USD 750 and use the amount for payments, provided they register via the foreign limit portal available on the bank’s official website.

To access the increased limit, users are required to hold a RuPay debit card. This card can be used for point-of-sale (POS) transactions and ATM withdrawals within the country, up to the permitted USD 750 limit.

While BML has updated the spending allowance, there has been no confirmation regarding any changes to the USD 10 ATM withdrawal fee, which was previously announced. Customers awaiting clarity on this aspect are advised to stay tuned for further updates from the bank.

The revision aims to ease financial transactions for Maldivians living overseas while maintaining regulatory control over foreign currency outflows.
