The Maldives Meteorological Service has reported bad weather in the southern atolls of the Maldives.
A white alert has been issued from GA. Atoll to Addu Atoll. According to the alert, these atolls are expected to experience heavy rain with thunderstorms. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40 mph during squalls.
Met Office meteorologist Mohamed Shahud told "One" today that rain began in the southern atolls from 4 AM this morning. Currently, rain has stopped in other areas except Fuvahmulah. However, there are still rain clouds, and more rain is expected in these areas today.
In this rainy weather, Addu Hulhudhoo received the most rainfall, measuring 36 millimeters. The second highest rainfall was recorded in Gan, with 23 millimeters, according to Shahud.
The strongest winds were recorded in Addu City, with wind speeds reaching 49 mph during squalls.
The Met Office said yesterday that bad weather is expected across the Maldives for the next five days starting tomorrow.
Generally, wind speeds are expected to be between 13 and 23 mph, increasing to 40-45 mph during squalls, and seas will be rough. They also warned of possible tidal waves affecting some islands during high tide.
Due to the expected bad weather, the Met Office has urged all parties, especially sea travelers, to be cautious of the weather. They have also advised taking safety measures to protect against potential dangers and minimize damage that could result from strong winds and heavy rain.
