Changes to the Hulhumale' Master Plan have been introduced and inaugurated today.

The plan was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held this morning in Hulhumale' Phase 2.

The main changes in the new Master Plan include connecting Phase 3, which is being reclaimed on the western side of Hulhumale', with Phase 2. This connection will extend up to the channel currently between Phases 1 and 2.

Speaking at the ceremony, HDC's Chief Planning Officer Ahmed Zind Zinaf said that previously, Phase 3 and Phase 2 were to be connected by just one causeway. He said the decision to merge the two phases was made due to potential issues with public services and transportation.

Zinaf said that despite this change, no plots allocated under the Binveriya Scheme would be lost.

The second change is the expansion and development of Hulhumale' port. The current 36-hectare port will be expanded to 53 hectares, with the western part of Phase 1 and the southern part of Phase 3 being developed as part of the port.

The port will include:

  • A modern, large terminal
  • A speedboat marina with capacity for 316 dinghies/speedboats
  • A safari marina that can accommodate 75 safari boats
  • A marina club
  • A T-jetty for loading and unloading cargo
  • A distribution center for cargo storage in the T-jetty area
  • Space for warehouses and workshops

Additionally, a plaza area with a boardwalk for public recreation will be developed on the western side of Hulhumale' Phase 3. This area will include platforms for fishing and land for commercial outlets.

An Islamic Center is planned near the plaza area. A 321,000 square foot area has been allocated for this, which will include offices, school buildings, waqf buildings, and a park.

According to the Master Plan, a 300,000 square foot area will be developed specifically for holding expos. The Farukolhufushi area will be converted into the Central Park of Hulhumale' Phase 2.

This area will include a large football field, sports courts, space for events, a barbecue area, a garden, a petting zoo, and a pump track.
